MagStor Archive Solutions TCO Page
Our methodology for Cost/TB and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
We've used public data, particularly TCO Data from lto.org TCO Calculator
for Data Storage solutions
For MagStor Archive Solutions, we compiled the data as shown on the charts below. For the calculations at lto.org, we used the minimums, beginning capacity of 1PB, 1% average yearly data growth, and $0.12 per KW/H energy cost.
For each example, we have included the cost of 60 pieces of NanoPure LTO-9 media with the MagStor solutions, for a total of 1080TB/1.08PB of storage for comparison purposes. The actual bundles typically start with 20 pieces.
For all MagStor Desktop Archive Solutions, it's important to note that the data is not continually "online" as the JBOD Disk solution offering provides. The MagStor Desktop Archive Solution may incur longer restoral times vs disk since the user has to load the specific tapes that have the requested data using the provided software. Tape Restoral for Desktop Archive Solutions is about 1TB/Hour, whereas HDD RAID can be a bit faster in some circumstances. Cloud will typically be slower based on the internet connection used. MagStor Library Archive Solutions can provide much larger online access as detailed below on this page.
