The MagStor TRB5-L9-MAX pairs LTO-9 tape storage with a Thunderbolt / USB4 desktop connection. Use removable cartridges for project archives, backup copies and offsite retention without leaving every copy connected to your computer.
Plan from 18TB native capacity. The advertised maximum of 45TB compressed assumes 2.5:1 compression; actual results depend on your data.

Up to 400 MB/s native
The model-specific maximum is 400 MB/s. Source storage, file sizes, media, software and verification affect real job speed.
Thunderbolt / USB4 connection
Connect a compatible host and use the correct interface and tape drivers. A USB-C connector alone does not establish compatibility.
XPNTL Solo LTFS included
A perpetual Solo license with one year of software updates and support is included through MagStor redemption. Solo Pro is an optional separate upgrade.

Host interface, operating system and drivers
Use a compatible Thunderbolt / USB4 computer with model-appropriate drivers and supported tape software. Verify the exact computer, operating system and application version with MagStor before installation. Ordinary USB-only and charging-only USB-C ports are not a substitute for a supported Thunderbolt / USB4 host.
Sustained source performance
Use source storage that can sustain the intended transfer rate throughout long jobs. Fast local SSD staging, suitable RAID or a fast network source can help. A 1GbE source can bottleneck tape transfers; measure sustained performance and include verification time in archive planning.
Power, ventilation and media handling
Keep ventilation clear and use a clean, stable, climate-controlled workspace. Follow the installation, operating and cartridge-storage guidance supplied with the drive. Confirm power, cable and accessory requirements for your configuration.
Included software
Start your LTFS workflow with XPNTL Solo.
XPNTL Solo supports LTFS archive and restore workflows, file checksums, read-back verification and a searchable offline catalog. The standard license is perpetual, covers one computer at a time and supports up to two standalone tape drives.
One year of software updates and support is included. You may continue using your licensed version after that year ends; this is not a promise of lifetime updates or ongoing paid support. Solo Pro features require the optional upgrade.

LTO-9 capacity is up to 45TB at 2.5:1 compression; LTO-8 capacity is up to 30TB at the same ratio. Actual compression is data dependent. Allow for formatting, LTFS indexes and application overhead.
Offline by design
Keep a copy you can take offline.
After writing and verifying your data, eject the cartridge and store it separately from connected systems. Removable tape supports offsite rotation and physically offline retention. Keep more than one copy of important data, retain catalogs and encryption keys where used, and test restores regularly.
