TAA procurement
TAA-compliant tape hardware.
FC-HL8 is listed by MagStor as TAA compliant. For purchases with Trade Agreements Act requirements, ask MagStor for model-specific documentation and confirmation of the exact supplied configuration before ordering.
Review the exact hardware configuration and procurement documentation against your purchasing requirements; accessories and added devices do not automatically inherit the drive’s status.
Built around your workflow

Archive workflows in the workspace
System requirements
Host interface and drivers
Use a compatible Fibre Channel HBA or supported fabric, matching optics/cabling, tape drivers and operating system.
Installation and power
Provide compatible AC power, secure installation and clear ventilation. Confirm rack loading and rail fit where applicable.
Software and configuration
Confirm the operating system, drivers, application, LTO generation, drive count and media format as one configuration.
Additional requirements
Sustained source performance
Plan sustained source reads and representative job testing. A 1GbE source can bottleneck tape transfers; use suitable local staging or a faster end-to-end source path.
Operating environment
Keep ventilation clear and avoid condensation, dust and rapid environmental changes. Follow the exact drive, enclosure and media operating limits. Confirm model-specific temperature and relative-humidity limits before installation.
Software and licensing
Choose compatible backup, archive or LTFS software, retain catalogs and any encryption keys, and test restores. Confirm application and initiator licensing separately.
Offline by design
Keep an archive you can take offline.
LTO uses removable cartridges for long-term backup and archive copies. After writing and verifying your data, eject the cartridge and store it separately from connected systems. This physical separation supports air-gapped retention, offsite rotation and protection from threats that reach online storage.
Own your archive media
Keep physical control of retained data without recurring cloud capacity charges for those tape copies.
Long-term retention
Media is designed for a shelf life of up to 30 years under recommended storage conditions. Follow the cartridge’s handling and storage guidance.
TAA Compliant
For procurement that requires TAA compliance, confirm the required configuration with MagStor before ordering.
Main features
Designed for a complete tape workflow.
Offline protection
Unload verified media to retain a physically offline copy separate from the connected host.
LTFS and backup workflows
Choose compatible software for the required file-based archive or managed backup workflow.
Removable long-term storage
Plan cartridge labeling, catalogs, verification and periodic restore tests.
Complete configuration matters
Match the drive, interface, host, drivers, software and media format as one workflow.
Model-specific installation
Use the supported enclosure and installation requirements for this exact configuration.
Support for the workflow
Contact MagStor with the SKU and serial number for setup, firmware and troubleshooting questions.
Cartridge compatibility
| Data cartridge | Native capacity | Support |
|---|---|---|
| LTO-8 | 12TB | Read / write |
| LTO-7 | 6TB | Read / write |
Capacity is per cartridge; compression depends on the data. Confirm media support for the installed configuration.
Choose software for your workflow
Backup, archive and LTFS applications.
Any backup, archive or LTFS application that supports the drive’s LTO generation and host configuration can be used, even if it is not listed here. Confirm support for your operating system, interface, drivers and media format; licensing and setup requirements still apply.
Backup applications
Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault, Arcserve and Retrospect are examples to evaluate for the complete configuration.
LTFS and archive applications
XPNTL Solo, Hedge Canister, Archiware P5, YoYotta, XenData, myLTO and compatible LTFS tools are examples, not a certification list.
Choose compatible archive software and confirm required licensing.
Trusted across industries
Archive the work you need to keep.
From media production and enterprise backup to healthcare, government, research, surveillance, legal, and cloud infrastructure, MagStor LTO solutions are used anywhere large amounts of data require secure, removable, offline-capable storage.
