The E10G-1U-HL8 combines LTO-8 tape storage with 10GbE iSCSI connectivity in a 1U rackmount format. Install the completed enclosure with clear ventilation and compatible power, host connections, drivers and tape software. One host has exclusive access to the tape device at a time. ePro is not a NAS or an SMB/NFS file server.

Host interface and drivers
Provide a dedicated wired 10GbE connection and supported iSCSI tape-device initiator, operating system, drivers and application.
Installation and power
Provide compatible AC power, secure installation and clear ventilation. Confirm rack loading and rail fit where applicable.
Software and configuration
Confirm the operating system, drivers, application, LTO generation, drive count and media format as one configuration. Windows/Linux require supported iSCSI initiators. macOS requires a separate compatible initiator; confirm licensing and package contents.
Additional requirements
Sustained source performance
Use the required wired 10GbE connection for ePro tape access. Wi-Fi and 1GbE are not supported for that connection; link speed does not guarantee job throughput.
Operating environment
Keep ventilation clear and avoid condensation, dust and rapid environmental changes. Follow the exact drive, enclosure and media operating limits. Confirm model-specific temperature and relative-humidity limits before installation.
Software and licensing
Choose compatible backup, archive or LTFS software, retain catalogs and any encryption keys, and test restores. Confirm application and initiator licensing separately.
Offline by design
Keep an archive you can take offline.
LTO uses removable cartridges for long-term backup and archive copies. After writing and verifying your data, eject the cartridge and store it separately from connected systems. This physical separation supports air-gapped retention, offsite rotation and protection from threats that reach online storage.
Own your archive media
Keep physical control of retained data without recurring cloud capacity charges for those tape copies.
Long-term retention
Media is designed for a shelf life of up to 30 years under recommended storage conditions. Follow the cartridge’s handling and storage guidance.

What it is
Dedicated iSCSI tape storage over wired 10GbE, with block-level tape-device access for one workstation or server at a time.
How it works
A supported computer or server has exclusive tape-device access through its iSCSI initiator, tape driver and application. Other hosts cannot access the drive until it is released.
Not a NAS
Network connectivity provides access to a tape device. It does not make ePro a shared file server or provide shared storage, SMB/NFS file shares or simultaneous multi-host tape access.

Whether a software vendor explicitly lists a MagStor ePro model or supports standard LTO tape drives through the host operating system, ePro is designed to integrate into backup, archive, and LTFS environments that support single-drive tape workflows.
